Local Attractions

Devizes has managed to retain a lot of individual shops and has a traditional market on Thursdays and Farmers Market on the first Saturday of the month.

Devizes has lots of things to see and do:
Wiltshire Museum, with world renowned artefacts from Stonehenge and Avebury, among its wide collection
Wadworth Brewery Visitor Centre tours most days, include visiting the sign writing shop and shire horses
Wharf Canal Centre canal museum, cafe and where the trip boat moors up
. A'Becketts Vineyard, Fine English Wine, Cider and Apple Juice from Wiltshire
. Caen Hill Locks, one of the UK waterways most impressive flight of locks

In the evening you may wish to sample the locally brewed 6X at one of Devizes many hostelries or visit the Wharf Theatre or Palace Cinema.  There are many events in the Town Hall or Corn Exchange. Tickets can generally be purchased from Devizes Books.

There are many local restaurants catering for all tastes and numerous pubs serving wholesome fare in the outlying villages. We have a book for guest comments about them, and the popular ones are marked on a town map.

Devizes Leisure Centre has comprehensive facilities including a swimming pool.

Attractions nearby:
Silbury Hill  and the World Heritage site of Avebury (Voted number 2 Heritage Site in the World, Which, Jan 2013), Wansdyke, Roundway Civil War Battle Site, Lacock including the Fox Talbot Museum and Bowood House are all within a few miles. 

Attractions within short distance by bus:
Roman Bath, Stonehenge, Salisbury including Old Sarum and cathedral, Marlborough (College and High Street). We can suggest many tours with interesting routes. The Connect2 bus is useful to walkers and can be pre booked.

We have our own Rosemundy Cottage Ordnance Survey Maps, (Devizes is normally on the edge of 3!) and a good range of literature on attractions, walks and cycle routes.

Leisure activities:
The local area hosts many sporting activities, including: Devizes Leisure Centre and many sports clubs, eg golf, bowls, tennis and rugby football.  Horse riding, cycling, walking (eg Ridgeway and Roundway Hill), fishing, boating, Microlighting, balloon flights, gliding, paragliding, hang gliding or helicopter flights.  We are happy to give more details of contact points.
